Our Annual Highlights Report (July 2022 – December 2023) showcases a period of significant impact and growth, demonstrating our commitment to closing the infrastructure finance gap.
Key Highlights from the Report:
- Mobilizing Private Capital: GIF-supported projects are expected to mobilize $73 billion in private capital, with $10.5 billion already achieved at commercial close. For every $1 of GIF funding, we leverage $100 in private capital, proving highly efficient use of public funds.
- Climate-Smart Focus: With 93% of our portfolio dedicated to climate-smart initiatives, the GIF is at the forefront of the energy transition, supporting projects in renewable energy, low-carbon transport, and energy-efficient social infrastructure. Our projects are projected to reduce 51 million tons of CO₂ annually.
- Global Reach & Impact: We've supported 171 activities across 68 countries, with 36 new projects approved in 28 countries during this reporting period. Our work provides new or increased access to services for 39 million people and adds 8,700 MW of renewable energy capacity.
- Strategic Partnerships: The GIF acts as a unique global public-private collaboration platform, connecting governments, MDBs, and private investors to prepare bankable projects and address critical market failures, including championing green hydrogen initiatives.
