Well Maintained: Economic Benefits of Reliable and Resilient Infrastructure

In May 2021, a World Bank report with contributions from the GIF was released to help inform the G20 policy dialogue on infrastructure maintenance under Italy’s presidency. It underscores the real costs and repercussions arising from the lack of maintenance of infrastructure assets on people, firms, and economic systems.

Resilient infrastructure depends on the regular maintenance of assets, especially in the face of climate change. More spending alone is not the answer as new approaches to the planning, costing, and delivery of maintenance, operations are needed. Lessons from private sector engagement are shared.
